I used Microsoft Notepad for the first site I built.  Times have changed and so have the tools. There are many technologies to choose from.  Here are the ones I have spent the most time with.

The first word processor I ever worked with used SGML for formatting.  It took me ten years to figure out what that meant.  When I built my first web site, I used a very basic text editor.  The HTML syntax made perfect sense to me at the time.  I had already been exposed to its predecessor.  The limitations of HTML were obvious.  I began the pursuit of better ways to generate web pages.

Since that time, I have used several technologies to create, enhance, and/or debug fully functional, data driven web applications.  Here is a list of the dynamic web development technologies I am most familiar with:

  • JavaScript with AJAX
  • ASP
  • JSP (Java Server Pages)
  • CGI using Perl
  • PHP
  • ASP.NET (C#)

I am also familiar with Flex and OpenLaszlo, though I have not fully explored their functionality.   I would love the opportunity to work on a complete project using either of these technologies.
